Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
At Dropmore Infant School we have introduced a whole school PSHE scheme called Kapow. Kapow is a comprehensive PSHE programme that brings together PSHE, emotional literacy, mindfulness, citizenship, social skills and physical health and safety.
Our PSHE curriculum aims to ensure that children
- build their capacity for learning
- are equipped for life
PSHE at Dropmore
All children at Dropmore Infant School will follow the Kapow scheme. It is a whole school approach, with children in year 1 and 2 working on the same half termly theme at the same time (sequentially ordered from September to July) building on themes that are introduced in Reception. Each year group is taught one lesson per week and all lessons are delivered in an age and stage appropriate way so that they meet the needs of all children.
Children will cover themes of:
Friendships and relationships
Health and wellbeing
Citizenship
Economic Wellbeing
Changing Body
Safety
Transitions
Relationships and Health Education
Recently, the Department for Education (DfE) have made the Relationships and Health Education aspects of PSHE compulsory in all Primary Schools. At Dropmore Infant School, we deliver statutory Relationships and Health Education in a thoughtful and inclusive way through our PSHE curriculum.
Relationship and Health Education Information
We work in partnership with parents, below you will find a copy of our online RHE information session for parents and our RHE policy which share how we teach RHE (Relationships and Health Education) at Dropmore. The information session covered the ways in which we teach elements of the curriculum such as animal and human life cycles, the physical differences between boys’ and girls’ bodies and the scientific names we use for body parts.
